Vasthi is the main treatment among panchakarma. 50% of the disease can be cured by giving vasthi.  Hence vasthi is considered as ardha chikitsa (half of the treatment). In this medicated oil or the decoction or combination of medicines for vasthi are induced in to  the body through the anal root. When oil is used for this procedure it is known as anuvasana vasthi  or snehana vasthi. When decoction or kashaya is used then it is known as nirooha vasthi or kashaya vasthi.

Vasthi is an important treatment for treating almost all vata vyadhies, geriatric disorders, arthritic problem. It is considered as bhalya giving strength to the body and very good arthritic problem and very good rasayana vajeekarana treatment.
